Rules & Conditions
Entry is conditional upon acceptance of the competition rules of The Ultimate Dance Challenge – TUDC. Please read them carefully.
ABILITY
Sections are open to amateurs only. Entrants may perform only 1 routine in each event.
AGE
Age is determined by the dancer’s year of birth (age of the dancer on Dec 31, 2023)
TIME LIMITS
3 minutes
CHECK IN
All competitors must check in at the Check in Desk on arrival.
PARENTAL/GUARDIAN SUPERVISION
Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult whilst in attendance.
MUSIC
Music must be good quality, pre-recorded at appropriate volume level & pitch & completely edited.
Music is to be provided on either USB or device (as the only track in the playlist)
Always bring a back-up copy.
Studio owners are reminded it is their responsibility to have a One Music License.
COMPETITION SCHEDULE
You must be prepared to perform 30 minutes before your time. Costume change issues of 3 or less numbers will be accommodated. TUDC will move up or back routines to keep the competition running on time. Routines are expected to perform in the order they are scheduled. In case of insufficient entries in any event they may be combined with similar events.
COMPETITION STAGE
Tarkett Flooring is supplied at all TUDC Events. ROSIN IS NOT TO BE USED in any part of the venue, dressing room or stage area.
MUSIC, CHOREOGRAPHY, COSTUME CHOICE
Please take care to select costumes, music, routine for general audience appeal. Inappropriate song choice, choreography or costumes too revealing or risqué will have deductions or potential disqualification at the discretion of the judges. Our audience is made up of parents and impressionable young students.
Song choice
The dancer/s should be fully aware of the song’s content and meaning, and the teacher should be confident in choosing that song in regards to not only the dancer, but in regards to the parents, studio, and audiences.
Choreography
The choreography should be appropriate in style & content for the dancers age & personal comprehension.
Teachers/choreographers should also select choreography that is safe for the dancer to perform according to their age & stage of physical development.
Costuming
No sexually provocative or risqué garments may be worn (eg. suspender belts, underwear worn as outerwear, etc)
Garments must be "secure" to prevent "wardrobe malfunction" or clothing coming open or apart.
Appropriate undergarments must be worn for modesty
Use good judgment in selecting fabrics (for example sheer garments that allow underwear to be seen, etc).
STYLES OF DANCE
BALLET execute ballet technique. Pointe shoes may only be worn from 12/u and over
CONTEMPORARY such as Graham, Tharp. Dance can demonstrated using balance, isolation, extension, based on space, force, weight and time, can be characterized to reflect the choreographers vision.
JAZZ dancers execute free form movement, and may wear jazz shoes, chorus shoes, half soles bare feet, executing controlled moves that involve balance and flexibility.
HIP HOP routine consisting primarily of Hip Hop Technique – Inappropriate lyrics should be cut out or voiced over along with inappropriate gestures.
LYRICAL interpretation of lyrics using a combination of ballet or jazz, showing legwork, balance, body emotion.
MUSICAL THEATRE dance interpreting a song from a movie, musical or Broadway show.
TAP executing tap technique in tap shoes. No Tap sounds on music. Tap music accompaniment can include vocals. Recorded tap routines are not allowed.
SONG AND DANCE demonstrates dance style and vocal ability.
EVENTS
RESTRICTED
Confined to competitors who have never been placed 1st in any age group, at any Competition or Eisteddfod (including specially restricted and restricted) in that particular dance section ie. Jazz
OPEN
Confined to competitors who have won a 1st Place in the restricted section in any age group, at any competition or eisteddfod in that particular dance section ie. Jazz
IMPROVISATION
plain dance apparel must be worn. Ballet entrants must wear ballet tights.

To qualify for championships, competitors must enter and dance in the following sections in addition to the championship.

COMPETITION INFORMATION
TUDC prefer music to be provided on a device (iPad, iPod). The song must be the only track on the playlist. Alternatively you may bring a CD- again- only one track permitted on CD.
Reports are collected from the front desk. Reports will be available for collecting 10 minutes after each event has finished.
In the event that a competitor fails to remember the choreography and exits the stage – a repeat of routine may be permitted at the adjudicators discretion.
Entrant will receive a 10 point deduction in the event of this happening.
Please arrive 1 hour prior to your start time.
Please read the program thoroughly and ensure you have entered the correct event – if you need to change your event to another event a $10.00 admin fee will be charged.
